Birthday Mittens

A ball of yarn sighted in Heraklion, Crete turned into a beautiful pair of plush, seafoam mittens. Now I only have to wait eight months so I can wear them!

Knitting Continues

A change of continent and while I have to leave my sewing machine behind, I can bring my knitting needles! My first task was finishing up this little beauty from Lace One-Skein Wonders, whose intricate lace work had me pulling out my hair (and several rows, several times) a good deal of last spring. On our way up to Germany last month, I finally finished the piece and recently sewed on the buttons. Now it's ready for winter! (If we get winter here in Murcia).

A picture a day...

The latest creation - a bath mitt. Ultimately a failure, it started with good intentions. Unfortunately, there are good reasons patterns for bath mitts call for cotton and not for alpaca. Dust mitt?

Some handicrafts...

What is knitting but another version of cooking? You take a recipe (or pattern), purchase the ingredients (or materials) and then set to work trying to follow the darned thing to the best of your ability. Sometimes this ability is not quite enough and you end up with a soured soup or a skewed knit, but you made it and you love it all the same. Here is a small documentation of my lesser and greater successes at knitting over the last few months, having once again picked up my needles and given them a stab since my days of college scarf-knitting glory. I present: Baby Things, and Other Things.
