Sewing!

Well, I've done a bit of that too, and that's mostly all new. The last thing I remember sewing before my recent craze of the last year is a quilt when I was a very small youngster, learning at my grandma's knee. My grandparents and parents decided a sewing machine would complete the domestic scene of my six years of marriage (since a grandchild was not forthcoming), and I have enjoyed testing it out a great deal. I find I particularly enjoy scrapping through for patterns to match up in a cute apron, as well as rather eccentric pillows. Monster is a favorite, and was hard to give away!

Some handicrafts...

What is knitting but another version of cooking? You take a recipe (or pattern), purchase the ingredients (or materials) and then set to work trying to follow the darned thing to the best of your ability. Sometimes this ability is not quite enough and you end up with a soured soup or a skewed knit, but you made it and you love it all the same. Here is a small documentation of my lesser and greater successes at knitting over the last few months, having once again picked up my needles and given them a stab since my days of college scarf-knitting glory. I present: Baby Things, and Other Things.

Roasted cauliflower soup

I tried this soup today. It turned out pretty good, although it mostly tasted like my vegetable stock because that stuff was rather strong. I left out the bay leaf and red pepper flakes. Not bad, all in all. I remembered our sadly neglected blog at the last minute and documented the experiment in progress.
